About the Course
Jaron R. Smith, better known as "Instructor Smitty," is an accomplished facilitator of learning, educator, and trainer who is passionate about helping individuals develop knowledge, skills, and confidence through purposeful instruction. His teaching philosophy centers on combining data, statistics, research, and learned experiences to create meaningful learning opportunities that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds and experience levels.
Throughout his career, Jaron has delivered educational presentations and training programs in a variety of settings, ranging from local middle schools in Jackson, Mississippi, to collegiate audiences at Tougaloo College. He regularly hosts seminars and webinars through RYG Tactical, covering topics related to firearms education, personal protection, decision-making, leadership, and community safety.
Jaron's impact extends beyond the local level. He previously served as Director of Training for the United 2A Collective, where he oversaw the development and implementation of training initiatives at the national level. Prior to that role, he served as Director of Training for the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA), where he became one of the organization's most accomplished training leaders. During his tenure, he developed instructor development programs, training standards, and educational resources that enhanced the quality and consistency of instruction nationwide. He also spearheaded the creation of an online instructor portal designed to provide a centralized location for curriculum management, record keeping, and instructor resources.
In addition to his firearms training experience, Jaron brings more than two decades of leadership, coaching, and professional development experience from the retail and hospitality industries. These roles helped shape his commitment to customer service, professionalism, and relationship-building—principles that remain central to every training program he delivers today. Whether instructing a first-time student, developing instructors, consulting with organizations, or speaking to large audiences, Jaron remains committed to providing an exceptional learning experience that empowers others to grow, perform, and succeed.
