Recap of Range Recon: A Family Affair

Attending Range Recon was an experience that blended learning, skill-building, and community in a way few events manage to do. Over three days, I had the chance to engage deeply with fellow members of U2AC, participate in hands-on training, and share some of the most important work we’ve been developing. This post shares my personal journey through the event, highlighting the moments that stood out and the lessons that will stick with me.

Classroom Training That Sets the Foundation

The event kicked off with classroom sessions designed to sharpen our understanding of security and firearms use. These sessions were more than just lectures; they were interactive discussions that challenged us to think critically about our roles as responsible shooters, instructors, and chapter leaders.

One of the highlights was presenting Sanctuary Shield, our PowerPoint presentation focused on the importance of establishing a security team or ministry. This presentation sparked meaningful conversations about how to build a team that is both effective and compassionate. Sharing this with an audience that truly understands the stakes made the experience rewarding.

Hands-On Firearms Range Training

After the classroom sessions, the real action moved to the range. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, we practiced drills that tested accuracy, speed, and decision-making under pressure. The range training was intense but incredibly valuable.

A standout moment was previewing RYG Tactical’s flagship program called SIT (Standards-Intensive Training), also known as "See It Through." This program focuses on mindset, accuracy, and speed with handguns, emphasizing the use of metrics to track progress and improve skills. It’s designed to help shooters become more responsible and confident, which is exactly what we need in today’s environment.

Competition Shooting with Expert Guidance

One of the most exciting parts of the event was participating in competition shooting reps. These were proctored by Heath Anderson of Black Alpha Tactical, whose expertise brought a new level of challenge and insight. Competing under his watchful eye pushed me to refine my technique and stay calm under pressure.

The competition format also fostered a sense of camaraderie among attendees. Watching others perform and sharing tips created a supportive atmosphere that felt like a family gathering rather than just a training event.

Building Connections and Sharing Knowledge

Range Recon was more than just training; it was about building relationships. Being surrounded by people who share a commitment to safety and skill development made the experience feel personal and meaningful. I left with new contacts, fresh ideas, and a renewed sense of purpose.

The event’s structure allowed for plenty of informal conversations, which often led to the best learning moments. Whether it was discussing tactics over a meal or sharing stories on the range, these interactions enriched the entire experience.

Why Events Like Range Recon Matter

Events like Range Recon provide a unique space where education meets practice. They remind us that being responsible with firearms is not just about technique but also about mindset and community. The combination of classroom learning, hands-on training, and competition creates a well-rounded approach that benefits everyone involved.

For those considering attending future events, I can say that the investment of time and effort pays off in skills, confidence, and connections that last well beyond the weekend.

Final Thoughts on a Great Experience

Range Recon was a rewarding experience both as a presenter and as an attendee. Sharing Sanctuary Shield and previewing SIT allowed me to contribute to the community’s growth while learning from others. The competition shooting added a fun and challenging dimension that tested everything we practiced.

If you are part of U2AC or interested in improving your security and firearms skills, I highly recommend keeping an eye out for future Range Recon events. They offer a unique blend of education, practice, and fellowship that is hard to find elsewhere.

Taking part in Range Recon reminded me that training is not just about individual improvement but about building a stronger, safer community together. I look forward to applying what I learned and continuing to grow alongside this dedicated group.
